Filtracite® is manufactured from highly durable anthracite which, following extraction by mining, is screened, washed and processed to produce a comprehensive range of water filtration products. The physically and chemically inert nature of Filtracite® makes it suitable for all potable, municipal and industrial processes where the removal of finely divided particulate material from aqueous suspension is required.
Filtracite® is used in combination with sand in rapid gravity filters for the treatment of both raw and coagulated, settled water. The benefits in this application include: longer filter runs; increased filtration rate; improved filtration quality; lower residual aluminium levels; reduced backwash water requirements and power consumption.
The tertiary treatment of sewage effluent to remove solids is necessary to meet discharge consents. Filtracite®, used in isolation or as a dual media, allows the use of higher filtration rates and reduced operating costs. Filtracite® also exhibits a greater capacity for solids allowing extended operation between backwash intervals.
Effective removal of particulate matter from process streams in the chemical, petrochemical, textile, paper and pharmaceutical industries is achieved by the use of Filtracite® in conjunction with other filtration media such as sand and garnet. For process supply water, Filtracite® provides an effective particulate removal medium in conjunction with other filtration media or as support material for mechanical or adsorption filters.
